Unfortunately our dream to finish the friendship garden
and playground have run out of time...it is with a heavy heart we realise this may well have to become a 2015 reality. Thanks to all the students who put in a valiant effort to get it off the ground, hopefully one day it will be real...until then watch this space!

Y8 Formal is coming up - Thursday 11 December 2014

Hello everybody,
The Year 8 formal will be upon us in no time.  Invitations have been made and are about to be sent out.  Following along similar lines to previous years the Year 7s will waiter/waitress the evening, we hope they will be able to make this special event as it will be their turn next year.  Start time is 6.30 with dinner, dancing and dessert...we can't wait.  Approx finish 9pm.

Well done to everyone on presenting another fabulous passion project!! The portfolios are amazing, the masks capture aspects of your culture well, the food - divine!  I can't wait to see what you come up with for your Action term. :)

At 8.30 we began to set up and we went from this at 10am...

To this at 2pm...but we sold all the cakes and baking, about 200 sausages and some lollies.
Despite heavy rain and uplifting wind...not one team member complained, they were positive and enthusiastic throughout.  We had a mix of Room 2 and Room 3 - throughout the day we had about 20 students helping. A big thank you to Claire's dad, Rashi's mum, Brianna's mum and Nikki's mum and dad!!
WELL DONE EVERYONE!!

Totara team walked down Barberry Grove, past the Scout hall, along our new tree planting bit and all the way over to George Gee Drive and back! Wow - what a fast trip back the goat track was steep!

TERM 3 PASSION PROJECT

OUR PEOPLE, OUR FUTURE – CULTURAL SUSTAINABILITY

PASSION PROJECT STRUCTURE

Task:  you are to choose a culture of your choice and follow the passion project cycle.

1.     fat question

2.     research/note taking

3.     drafting into paragraphs

4.     storyboarding

5.     publish

I want the following elements explored in your final piece (publish by submitting your portfolio)

-       What is the culture, continents and country?

-       What is the history?

-       What are the values and beliefs?

-       What is the style of clothing, housing, food, music and dance?

-       How do they celebrate?

-       What sports are special to them?

-       Art – patterns, drawings, diagrams included

-       How has this culture been sustained through the generations?

-       Prediction – how long will it last?  Will it merge? If yes, who with, and why?

Design Brief

§  Your client has not had exposure to the culture you are investigating.  They want to know a few things (listed above), and are wondering what art inspired by your chosen culture might look like.

§  Your client would like to see three final pieces of quality art.  They also want to see how you have made connections between this art and your chosen culture; also how you progressed from your first attempt to your final submission.

§  They want to see a range of techniques used within the final artworks.

§  Your client wants to see evidence from the approaches seen within your classroom:

Problem solving (List solutions, predict, design a better... etc.)

Creative thinking (How is... different to ...? Invent a game, a story, about... etc.)

Critical thinking (Decide, compare, Contrast, calculate, etc.)

§  Things to consider are:

Medium of both the final portfolio and the artwork (Photography, painting, sketching, mixed media, scrapbooking, ICT, printmaking, rubbings, collage).

Influence/style: Tessellations, abstract, portrait, artists, modern/traditional.

Use of colour.

Making connections between words and art in the portfolio.

What information to include in the portfolio.

Reflecting on and justifying the art.

Meaning (of your own art and of the symbols within the target culture).

Present as a portfolio.
