Choose two of the three options:
1. Nanny Flowers was "strangely tranquil" when Rehu's mother took Kahu to be bought up by her people. Why do you think this is? Remember the context of whangai, but also look and think further.
2. The meeting house had a carving of Kahutia Te Rangi on a whale, at the apex. What mauri did your ancestors bring to New Zealand?
3. What do you think the significance of Kahu chewing on Koro's toe was? Where do you think it is leading us?
Read to the end of Chapter 9.

1. Using info from the novel and your own research make up a map of the whales journey from Chile, Easter Island, Tahiti, NZ, and the Antarctic. OR
2. Summarise all the facts that you can find in the novel on the whales. Present however you want, illustrations, map, diagrams etc.

Finish reading the rest of Chapter 4 and 5. Tell me how Nani Flowers and Koro Apirana relationship is getting along.
Find Easter Island on a map - we will discuss the migration path of the whales next Monday.
Re-read the text about the ancient whale's memories of past times. Why were these memories and the ancient whale's grief, dangerous for the herd? Write a couple of sentences about it.
