Term 3 shapes up this way...

Term 3 is shaping up well.  Our focus this term will be on “Our People, Our Future – Cultural Sustainability”  - again our reading, writing and art will come through this inquiry.   Mathematics focus will continue along number strategies and a focus on algebra with some geometry.

Week 1 we start with Tech week – be at school by 8.30 to catch the bus 8.45.
The afternoons will be a Matariki whole school Te Reo focus, whereby we will buddy up with out buddy class and move around different classrooms/activities every afternoon.

Week 2 Monday we have a trip planned to the Dowse Museum looking specifically at Matatoki: Contemporary Maori Carving.
Later we will be show casing our models from the Energy unit.
After this we will begin our learning with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games featuring a look into the Scottish culture (amongst others).  Alongside this we will continue our immersion emphasis on Maori culture and heritage.
The student’s passion projects will kick in about week 5 whereby they will choose a culture to follow that is of interest to them.

Week 4 Maths week
Week 6 Student Led Conferences - hope to see you all over the week.
Week 9 will be production week – a sustainability focused play called  “A Breath of Fresh Air” – about saving our planet.
Week 10 we have planned a food festival and activity showcase for the final week of term, a nice way to wind down.

Class trip: Dowse - Matatoki: Contemporary Maori Carving.

Cost $2 (covers the bus) - date Monday 28 July  till lunchtime.

Matatoki brings together the work of some of the very best internationally recognised contemporary Māori carvers in New Zealand.

Each of the artists in this exhibition has developed a strong individual style that has been embraced by collectors and galleries. The result of this interest is that much of their work is leaving Aotearoa or going directly into private collections. Matatoki is an opportunity for local audiences to see the incredible skill and diversity of art being produced by these talented individuals.
